Main figures on road traffic accidents (2024)
In 2024, a total of 1,785 fatalities were recorded in 101,996 road traffic accidents throughout Spain. This represents, compared to 2023, a decrease of 1% in fatalities, while casualty road accidents increased by 1%. Regarding 2019, the baseline of the Strategy on Road Safety 2030, casualty accidents decreased by 2% but the number of people killed increased by 2%. In 2024, Spain registered a rate of 37 fatalities per million population (the same value as in 2019), below the European average (44) and being the tenth lowest in the ranking of countries, only behind Sweden (20), Malta (21), Denmark (24), Luxembourg (27), Finland (31), The Netherlands (31), Ireland (32), Slovenia (32) and Germany (33).
